Pan-Balkan Alliance of Natural Products and Drug Discovery Association (PANDA)

Following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Scientific Institutes and the Faculties of China and Serbia, in Belgrade on April 11, 2019, as part of the Second Balkan-China Mini Symposium on Natural Products and Drug Remediation, an initiative for establishing a new association that will involve all Balkan countries has been started.

Based on this agreement and the initiative of the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM), Chinese Academy of Sciences and Institute for Biological Research „Sinisa Stankovic“ - Institute of National Importance for the Republic of Serbia, University of Belgrade (IBISS) on September 26, 2019 in Shanghai, PR China an agreement was signed between 10 Balkan countries (Republic of Slovenia, Republic of Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Republic of Serbia, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia, Albania, Greece) and the People's Republic of China Pan-Balkan Alliance of Natural Products and Drug Discovery Association (PANDA) was established. The aim of this association is to promote joint development and discovery of new medicines based on the natural resources of the Balkan countries and China.

At the 4th Conference of the People's Republic of China and 17 countries of Central and Eastern Europe on cooperation in the field of innovation, held on October 8, 2019 in Belgrade, the formation of the PANDA Association was verified by signing of the agreement the Shanghai Materia of Medica (SIMM) represented by the Director Prof. Shenrong Tian and the Institute for Biological Institute Research "Sinisa Stankovic" - Institute of National Importance for the Republic of Serbia, University of Belgrade (IBISS), represented by the Director Dr. Mirjana Mihailović. The SIMM and IBISS institutes have become centers of this organization.
