Dr. Milica Pešić

Dr. Milica Pešić was born on May 14, 1971, in Belgrade. She completed her undergraduate studies in molecular biology and physiology at the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Biology, in 1995. She defended her Master's thesis at the same faculty in 1998 and earned her Ph.D. in Biology in 2008. During her Ph.D. studies, she took a career break due to five maternity leaves, totalling six years. Dr. Pešić is employed at the Institute for Biological Research "Siniša Stanković" - National Institute of the Republic of Serbia, University of Belgrade, where she served as the Head of the Department of Neurobiology from 2019 to 2025. Her research areas include cancer research, molecular biology, cell biology, preclinical studies, and experimental biomedicine. According to SCOPUS, Dr. Pešić has co-authored 120+ publications cited 2,400+ times, resulting in an h-index 29. Throughout her career, she has directly supervised five Ph.D. students. In addition to her research activities, Dr. Milica Pešić is the Vice President of the Serbian Association for Cancer Research. She has also been a member of the Global Young Academy (GYA) and the University Council for Interdisciplinary, Multidisciplinary, and Transdisciplinary Studies at the University of Belgrade. She is a member of the Steering Committee of the Institute for Medical Research — National Institute of the Republic of Serbia, University of Belgrade.
