The “Kopaonik” National Park is characterized by an exceptional diversity of plant species. Among the numerous woody, shrubby, and herbaceous species, many are medicinal and have appropriate applications in traditional medicine. They have been recorded in all types of habitats, and the most common medicinal species include: Achillea millefolium, Alchemilla vulgaris, Agrimonia eupatoria, Cornus mas, Crataegus monogyna, Epilobium angustifolium, Euphrasia alpina, Fragaria vesca, Galium verum, Gentiana cruciata, Gentiana lutea, Hypericum species, Juniperus communis, Mentha longifolia, Origanum vulgare, Potentilla erecta, Prunus spinosa, Rosa villosa, Rubus fruticosus, Rubus idaeus, Rumex alpinus, Sambucus nigra, Teucrium chamaedrys, Thymus pulegioides, Vaccinium myrtillus, Vaccinium vitis-idaea, Valeriana officinalis, and others.
In anthropogenically influenced habitats, weed plant species have been recorded, among which particular emphasis should be placed on the allochthonous species: Amaranthus retroflexus, Erigeron annuus, Erigeron canadensis, Matricaria discoidea, Medicago sativa, and Robinia pseudoacacia.
Field research on medicinal and weed plant species was conducted at several locations within the “Kopaonik” National Park: Sunčana Dolina, Treska, Pančić’s Peak, Kadijevac, the Samokovska River, Jutrište, Kaznovsko Bačište, Jankove Bare, Gobelja, Jaram, Pajino Preslo (upper), Duboka, and Zaplanina.
