Of Mice and Men: Modulation of Gut Microbiota as a Strategy for Treating Metabolic Diseases

The seminar will present the latest research results from the Department of Biochemistry, whose main goal was to examine the potential of intestinal microbiota as a therapeutic target for metabolic diseases such as obesity and fatty liver. Special attention will be given to the recently completed clinical study that examined the effectiveness of LiverDophilus probiotic, developed at IBISS in cooperation with colleagues from IMGGI and the pharmaceutical company Phytonet. The seminar will also discuss how studies on mice enabled the development of this probiotic and its path from the laboratory to the pharmacy.
