PhD students Ana Stepanović (Department of Neurobiology) and Ekatarina Mihajlović (Department of Immunology) are this year's winners of the award presented by the Serbian Association for Cancer Research (SDIR) for the best publications by young researchers.
As part of the planned activities within the STRIMHealth project, a dedicated team from IBISS, including Tanja Naumović, Milena Terzić and Zorica Janković from the Administrative and Legal Service, Nenad Bucalo from the Accounting and Financial Service, Dr. Danijela Vojnović-Milutinović, coordinator of the Knowledge and Technology Transfer Team, and Dr. Ivana Stojanović, coordinator of the Project Support Team, visited the Amsterdam University Medical Center (Amsterdam UMC) in the Netherlands from 2–8 June 2025.
The IBISS team, Dr. Nataša Veličković (STRIMHealth Project Coordinator), Dr. Ana Đorđević (Scientific Manager), Dubravka Zailac (Head of the Legal and Administrative Service), Milica Đorđević (Head of the Accounting and Financial Service), and Nikola Jevtić (Accountant) visited Örebro University (ORU) for two days as part of the capacity building activities for the STRIMHealth project.
The exhibit ECO-repellent received a Special Recognition for an exhibit that contributes to the development of technics awarded at the 67th International Fair of Technics and Technical Achievements, held on May 20-23, 2025 in Belgrade. The exhibit is the result of cooperation between the TMF and IBISS within the Proof of Concept project “NatuRep” of the Science Fund (grant 12929) and the IBISS Proof of Concept project “THYM-PROTECT” supported by the SAIGE project.
On Friday, May 30, 2025, the Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković” celebrated its 78th anniversary.
Pavle Ćosić is a research trainee at the Department of Cytology of the Institute for Biological Research "Siniša Stanković" – National Institute of the Republic of Serbia, University of Belgrade, and a PhD student at the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade. His area of scientific interest includes the structure and function of the pituitary-adrenocortical system in a model of experimental androgen deprivation and estrogenization of male rats. The aforementioned rat model is being developed for the purpose of simulating various clinical practices, from prostate cancer therapy to sex reassignment. The effects of the treatment are evaluated from the cellular level to the level of the complete endocrine system, with emphasis on the morphophysiological changes of the pituitary and adrenal gland, as well as on the corticosteroid hormonal status. The methodological approach in Pavle Ćosić's research involves the use of modern tools and techniques in the field of qualitative (analytical) and quantitative histology (histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, light and fluorescence microscopy, stereological and biochemical analyses).
Education:
2024 – : PhD student, module Physiology, sub-module Animal and Human Physiology, Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade
2024: MSc in biology, module Experimental Biomedicine, Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade
Master's thesis: "The effects of estradiol on morpho-stereological parameters and hormonal secretion of the adrenal cortex of castrated adult male rats", mentor Dr. Vladimir Ajdžanović, Principal Research Fellow of the Department of Cytology, IBISS, and Prof. dr. Nebojša Jasnić, Associate Professor, Faculty of Biology
2023: Biology graduate, Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade
Research experience:
2024 – : Research trainee, Department of Cytology, IBISS
2023–2024: Master's thesis, Department of Cytology, IBISS
Animal physiology studies how biological processes work, how they operate under different environmental conditions, and how these processes are regulated and integrated. They can be studied at different levels of organisation, from organelles and cell membranes to cells, tissues, organ systems, and the whole animal, both during development and in adulthood.
