At the invitation of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Serbia, the Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković” (IBISS), in cooperation with the PANDA organization and the Joint Chinese-Serbian Laboratory, participated in the event “Feeling China in Serbia” organized to mark the 70th anniversary of friendship between China and Serbia, on Sunday May 25th, 2025.

The scientific research project "Vascular Impairment as Mediator of Alzheimer´s Disease (VIMAD)" has been approved for funding within the Serbian Scientific Cooperation Program with the Diaspora: Support for Visits of Diaspora Scientists.

Ana Stupar

Ana Stupar graduated in 2023 from the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade. She completed her master's academic studies in the Physiology and Biotechnology of Plants module in 2024, and in the same year enrolled in doctoral academic studies in the Physiology and Molecular Biology of Plants module.

The experimental part of her master's thesis, entitled "Transient expression of Nepeta grandiflora leaves with genes of the iridoid biosynthetic pathway," was conducted at the Department of Plant Physiology of the Institute for Biological Research "Siniša Stanković", where she continues her doctoral studies. She was one of the recipients of the Goran Ljubijankić Foundation award for the best master's thesis defended in 2024.

She is a recipient of the eighth call from the Ministry of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation of the Republic of Serbia for the inclusion of young researchers in scientific research work.

In her previous work, she has focused on transient gene expression, in vitro tissue cultures, plant and bacterial cell transformations, as well as molecular techniques such as GoldenGate cloning and colony PCR. Her research interests are centered on plant physiology and molecular biology, with a special focus on phytochemical research and metabolic engineering.

During her studies, she was actively involved in extracurricular activities, particularly within the organization of the "Simplast" Biology Students' Congress, where she was a volunteer, logistics coordinator, and Congress coordinator over the years. She also participated in student conferences and forums, such as the "Student Business Forum," and was a member of the Board of the Student Union of the Faculty of Biology as the coordinator of the humanitarian team. She volunteered in several pharmacies and companies, gaining experience in pharmaceutical practice.

Biotechnology is defined as the use of biological processes and systems (living organisms or their parts) to develop or modify different processes or products useful to humans and includes analysis of risks of its implementation (biosafety).

Ethnobotany deals with research into specific aspects of the cultural and biological heritage of a particular region and includes research into the ways in which native plants are used in traditional and veterinary medicine, nutrition, and the production of various local products. This research contributes to the protection of biodiversity, sustainable development, and the efficient management of resources.

Physiology and molecular biology of plants studies the mechanisms underlying plant growth and development, plant morphogenesis in vitro (organogenesis, somatic embryogenesis, androgenesis), synthesis and accumulation of specialised metabolites, plant responses to different types of stressors, as well as allelopathic relationships between plants.

The STRIMHealth team at the University of Belgrade’s Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković” organized two impactful educational programs in early April 2025, aiming to strengthen research in metabolic health.
