The Joint Danube Survey 5 (JDS5), the world’s most comprehensive investigative surface-water monitoring effort, will officially kick off on 1 July 2025 in Vienna. This large-scale scientific survey will bring together experts from 14 countries to assess the health of the Danube River and its major tributaries.

Researchers from the Institute for Biological Research "Siniša Stanković" – National Institute of the Republic of Serbia, University of Belgrade (IBISS) are currently concluding another successful short-term scientific mission within the STRIMHealth project. This time, the mission took place at the Research Institute for Medicines, University of Lisbon (iMed ULisboa), in the Cell Function and Therapeutic Targeting group led by Prof. Cecília Maria Pereira Rodrigues.

PhD students Ana Stepanović (Department of Neurobiology) and Ekatarina Mihajlović (Department of Immunology) are this year's winners of the award presented by the Serbian Association for Cancer Research (SDIR) for the best publications by young researchers.

As part of the planned activities within the STRIMHealth project, a dedicated team from IBISS, including Tanja NaumovićMilena Terzić and Zorica Janković from the Administrative and Legal Service, Nenad Bucalo from the Accounting and Financial Service, Dr. Danijela Vojnović-Milutinović, coordinator of the Knowledge and Technology Transfer Team, and Dr. Ivana Stojanović, coordinator of the Project Support Team, visited the Amsterdam University Medical Center (Amsterdam UMC) in the Netherlands from 2–8 June 2025.

The IBISS team, Dr. Nataša Veličković (STRIMHealth Project Coordinator), Dr. Ana Đorđević (Scientific Manager), Dubravka Zailac (Head of the Legal and Administrative Service), Milica Đorđević (Head of the Accounting and Financial Service), and Nikola Jevtić (Accountant) visited Örebro University (ORU) for two days as part of the capacity building activities for the STRIMHealth project.

The exhibit ECO-repellent received a Special Recognition for an exhibit that contributes to the development of technics awarded at the 67th International Fair of Technics and Technical Achievements, held on May 20-23, 2025 in Belgrade. The exhibit is the result of cooperation between the TMF and IBISS within the Proof of Concept project “NatuRep” of the Science Fund (grant 12929) and the IBISS Proof of Concept project “THYM-PROTECT” supported by the SAIGE project.

On Friday, May 30, 2025, the Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković” celebrated its 78th anniversary.

The First STRIMHealth Annual Meeting took place online on May 26, 2025, at the Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković”. The meeting was attended by IBISS participants and key representatives of our partner institutions.

As part of the Joint Venture consisting of IBISS, the Jaroslav Černi Water Institute, and Gruner Balkans, researchers from the Department of Hydroecology and Water Protection and the Department of Ecology will participate in the Study on Sediment, Water, and Biota in the Sava River Basin.

At the invitation of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Serbia, the Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković” (IBISS), in cooperation with the PANDA organization and the Joint Chinese-Serbian Laboratory, participated in the event “Feeling China in Serbia” organized to mark the 70th anniversary of friendship between China and Serbia, on Sunday May 25th, 2025.
