Our colleague Dr. Stoimir Kolarević, principal research fellow of the Department of Hydroecology and Water Protection has been selected for Danubius Mid-Career Award for 2025. This prize is awarded by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Women, Science and Research and the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe (IDM).

Our colleague Nevena Savić, PhD student at the Department of Molecular Biology, has received the “Wiley–BioFactors Young Investigator Award 2024” for her paper titled “Sulforaphane prevents diabetes-induced hepatic ferroptosis by activating the Nrf2 signaling axis,” published in the journal IUBMB-BioFactors.

The workshop “Nature Protection and Digital Tools” will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the Ecological Center “Radulovački” in Sremski Karlovci. The event is organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) within the project EU for the Green Agenda in Serbia: Protection and Investments in Biodiversity and Water to Strengthen Climate Resilience.

On Friday, October 31, 2025, IBISS had the pleasure of hosting representatives from the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China (ISTIC), a national research and service institution under the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) of China.

The 6th Annual Conference of the Pan-Balkan Alliance for Natural Products and Drug Discovery (PANDA) and the 2025 UNESCO Regional Network for Natural Products Chemistry Seminar were held from October 26 to 29, 2025, at the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM), Shanghai, China.

Colleagues from the Institute, Dr. Momir Paunović, Dr. Marina Soković, Dr. Danijela Mišić, and Nađa Hadžimurtović, at the invitation of the PANDA Alliance, together with other alliance members, once again participated in the World Young Scientist Summit (WYSS2025), held on October 23–24, 2025, in Wenzhou, China.

As part of the planned activities within the STRIMHealth project, the team from IBISS (Dubravka Zailac, Milena Terzić and Zorica Janković from the Administrative and Legal Service, Nikola Jevtić from the Accounting and Financial Service, Dr. Nataša Veličković, STRIMHealth project leader, and Dr. Ivana Stojanović, coordinator of the Project Support Team) conducted a study visit to iMed ULisboa in Portugal from 14 to 18 October 2025.

Innovative formulation ‘ECO-repellent’ was awarded with the golden medal at TESLA FEST 2025, the 39th International Festival of Innovation, Knowledge and Creations held in Novi Sad on October, 12-15th.

The SDIRHDIRMOKAD First Regional Congress took place in Belgrade from October 8 to 11, 2025. Over three days, the event brought together clinicians, laboratory researchers, data scientists, and patient advocates for a focused scientific program aimed at accelerating translational cancer research.

Learning, memory, and behavior arise from the complex integration of neuronal networks, with the gut–brain axis playing a key role through microbiota, immune signaling, and neural pathways. Gut microflora can influence emotions, cognition, and behavior via metabolites, modulation of inflammation, and communication with the nervous system. Nutrition acts as a central regulator of microbiota composition and function, thereby affecting neural homeostasis and cognitive health.
